Risa Takahashi

Risa Takahashi, born and raised in Japan, holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano performance and a Masters degree in Choral Conducting from the University of British Columbia under Dr. Graeme Langager.

Having studied classical piano under Eva-solar Kinderman and conducting with Gerald van Wyck, who was her first mentor in conducting. Under Gerald’s tutelage, Risa has conducted the VCC Madrigal singers, West Vancouver United Church Choir, Pacific Spirit Choir, Risa’s Pieces choir and was the Artistic Director with Kids Sing in East Vancouver.

She studied voice and Solfege with Paula Kremer, who has also been a big influence on Risa’s music education by teaching her the importance of ear training and having the knowledge of a good vocal technique as a choral conductor.

Risa has been directing and developing our choir, undertaken Kodaly training and has studied Colourstrings Music Kindergarten teaching with Laura Hasthorpe for the past 5 years.
