Tejay Liao

Tejay Liao is a dynamic performer, innovative researcher, and passionate educator whose unique approach to learning has made him highly sought after as a guest speaker at colleges, universities, and summer music institutes. After finishing his Master's degree at McGill, Tejay went on to perform throughout North America before settling in Vancouver, where he quickly became entrenched in the local guitar community.
Throughout his career, Tejay has championed the importance of growth mindsets, mental health in music, and evidence-based learning strategies. By incorporating cutting-edge neuroscience research into practical applications for musicians, Tejay is expanding the boundaries of classical music pedagogy and challenging traditionally engrained beliefs to empower musicians to achieve their full potential.

When it comes to teaching, Tejay excels at tailoring each lesson to meet the individual needs of his students, regardless of their age, background, or skill level. His main goal each week is ensuring that students leave their lesson with a clear understanding of the material, and a plan for how they should progress for the next week.

Tejay believes that everyone has the ability to thrive and continuously improve when given appropriate challenges in a warm, supportive environment. His greatest strength as a teacher lies in his ability to identify the key areas that students need to focus on, and integrating these challenges into lessons in a way that is both enjoyable and rewarding.
