Matthew L - Drums & Percussion

Matthew Lew is a performer, educator, and collaborator from British Columbia, currently pursuing a dual-degree in Music and Education at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is a percussionist and vocalist studying under Aaron McDonald, principal timpanist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO), and Vern Griffiths, the orchestra's principal percussionist.



Matthew also sings with the Vancouver Youth Choir directed by Carrie Tennant. Matthew’s broad range of musical experience demonstrates the versatility of a percussionist. He has performed with UBC’s Symphonic Wind Ensembles, Percussion Ensemble, Choral Ensemble, African Music Ensemble, and various chamber groups. He has also played drums/percussion for numerous musicals and the Vancouver Youth Choir.

As an educator, Matthew strives to equip his students with the necessary tools to achieve their musical ambitions. He has taught private lessons to students aged 3 to 23 and currently directs a high school percussion ensemble. In addition to music, Matthew emphasizes life skills such as motivation, professionalism, and patience to support his students' growth as both musicians and well-rounded individuals.
